Why is venous reflux not just localised to the leg?
Professor Mark Whiteley explains that the venous reflux isn’t just localised to the leg; it’s a problem of any veins that are under the heart. The legs are obvious, because we can see them, but the venous reflux that happens in the veins in the abdomen and pelvis have historically been ignored.

Venous reflux is a problem of any veins that's under the heart. The legs are obvious, because we can see them, and what people have ignored for years is the venous reflux that happens in the veins in the abdomen and pelvis. Because it's under the heart, blood still falls down these veins if they're refluxing, if the valves aren't working, and they cause basically inflammation in the pelvis, or varicose veins in the pelvis with inflammation, and because it's not obvious on the outside, people suffer with the symptoms, but quite often, it goes undiagnosed.
