What results can I expect after pacemaker surgery?
Dr Daniel Keene, Consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist, explains results after pacemaker surgery in this video, covering improved energy, breathlessness, wound healing and ongoing monitoring after implantation. This offers practical, patient-friendly guidance for those considering private care.

So after your pacemaker, we'd be optimistic that you'd start to feel better, have more energy, less tired, perhaps less breathless, and perhaps that the heart might start to beat more effectively and that also helps you feel better.
So you might expect if you've got too slow a heartbeat and that's the reason why your pacemaker is going in, that almost immediately you'll start to feel better.
If you've got a condition where you don't have the right number of heartbeats when you're trying to do something, if we program the pacemaker to know that that's the reason you need the pacemaker and to give you extra oomph or va-va-voom when you're trying to do something, if we program those features on, you should start to notice that improvement pretty much straight away.
That might be limited a little bit by the fact you might have a bit of discomfort for the first few days, but hopefully once that's balanced out, you should start to feel an improvement.
But often there is a step change from the moment the procedure is done and then there is further improvement over time as well.
There are some procedures where we put the pacemaker, though, in up front of a second procedure and in those cases the pacemaker typically doesn't need to do anything or won't do anything until that second procedure is done.
And in those cases, having the pacemaker put in, you won't notice any meaningful difference.
The scenario that I'm talking about there is something called a pacemaker and AV node ablation set of procedures.
And in that case, it's the AV node procedure once that ablation is done, coupled with the pacemaker when you start to feel the difference.
