What medicine is available for erectile dysfunction?
Dr Paul Erotocritou explains that the first line of treatment for erectile dysfunction is medications that increase the blood flow into the penis.
Transcript
One of the first line options for treating erectile dysfunction is the use of medication. These are a category of medications called phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitors. In essence, these work by increasing the blood flow into the penis. There's two preparations. One can be short acting and one's long acting. The most commonly known short acting agent is sildenafil, sometimes also known better as Viagra and this increases the blood flow into the penis. The important thing with this medication is it needs to be taken on an empty stomach and 30 minutes before intended use of an erect penis. Certainly taking this on a full stomach after a romantic dinner will not work for you.
