What is the relationsip bertween anxiety and dizziness?
Chronic dizziness can cause anxiety, while anxiety can also cause dizziness so the two conditions are often closely linked, as Professor Adolfo Bronstein explains
Transcript
The relation between anxiety and dizziness I think is best defined as a bidirectional relationship. People who are dizzy feel very anxious, and people who are anxious can feel dizzy. For instance, to feel dizzy during a panic attack is almost a rule. Patients may breathe very heavily during a panic attack and that over breathing, or hyperventilation as it's called, can make people dizzy. Vice a versa, patients who have long term dizziness, they feel, Oh, I might have something wrong with me. Do I have a brain tumour? So they get all sorts of what is called health anxiety, they worry about their bodies, about their health, and that actually is part of the problem, rather than part of the solution. It has to be addressed by the doctors.
