Can you explain the link between dizziness and migraines?
Many people with migraines experience dizziness and vertigo, sometimes with visual disturbances too, says Professor Adolfo Bronstein
Transcript
Migraine is a very common cause of vertigo and dizziness. Although, that has been known from the 19th century. It has been more scientifically established that some forms of, attacks of migraine can produce intense sensation of spinning, or disorientation, or imbalance. So that is what we call vestibular migraine, or migraine related dizziness. It doesn't matter what you call it, but it's basically a form of migraine that instead of affecting, for instance, the eyes. You know there are many patients with migraine will have visual problems, sort of a moving things or zigzag lines. So patients with vestibular migraines, they will have an intense sense of dizziness, or spinning, or imbalance during the migraine attack. It's basically because the migraine is affecting the balance bits of the brain, as much as a visual migraine affects the visual bits of the brain.
