What is the relationship between gait and dizziness?

Gait plays a key role in balance so gait and dizziness can be closely linked, and any potential gait abnormalities should always be explored, says Professor Adolfo Bronstein

Transcript
Gait is essential for good balance. If your gait is abnormal, particularly in early phases of gait disorder, patients may report to the doctor that they feel a bit unsteady, a little bit dizzy. The causes of gait problems are innumerable, I mean, almost any disease in Neurology affects gait eventually. We're talking about early problems like an early Parkinson's disease, a neuropathy affecting the legs or cerebellar disorders in particular. The cerebellum is a little brain at the back of the head which deals with movement and particularly with gait. So diseases in those areas can give a slightly uncoordinated gait which the patient may report to the doctor as a sense of dizziness. So there is a strong connection between gait and dizziness. And we normally assess gait in all dizzy patients.
