Transcript
Egg donation refers to the process where you are utilizing eggs from a donor for treatment for a patient who is unable to use her own eggs for this purpose. So, if a patient has got very low ovarian reserve or premature ovarian insufficiency and they are unable to achieve a pregnancy using their own eggs, they may consider donation from another individual to use their eggs with the patient's partner's sperm to create an embryo that will be replaced back into the patient. There are certain situations where a patient may be a carrier of a genetic condition. And, on occasions, that can be an indication to having egg donation. However, in this scenario, pre-implantation genetic diagnosis or PGD is often used to assess for the embryos and detect embryos that are genetically normal and are not carriers of the condition to utilise.
