What is the head-thrust test?
Consultant Neurologist, Professor Adolfo Bronstein, says the head thrust test is used by doctors to examine if one side of the inner ears and eyes is resposible for the dizziness because the symptoms would be localised to that side.
Transcript
The head thrust test is part of the clinical examination that the doctor does. And what it examines is the connection between the inner ear and the eyes, so that when the doctor turns the head to one side, the eye remains fixed on the doctor, or to the other side the eye remains fixed on the doctor. And that is a test that allows you to tell if one ear is the culprit, one ear is responsible for the dizziness of that patient. Although we do it in the clinic, there is a computerised version of the test as well that can be done as a laboratory test and we often request that test as well.
