What is the difference between IUI and IVF?
Andrew Thomson details the difference between IUI and IVF, explaining with IUI the sperm is prepared in the lab, while with IVF a woman’s eggs are stimulated and an embryo is created in the lab and implanted into the womb.
Transcript
The differences between IUI and IVF are with IUI, you prepare the sperm in the laboratory to maximise the amount of good quality sperm there and that's replaced into a woman on the right date. With IVF, it's slightly more invasive. So you stimulate the female patient for her ovaries to produce eggs. She goes through a short surgery and then those are removed and the eggs are fertilised in the laboratory to make embryos. And then, those embryos are replaced back into her uterus a couple of days later. So the success rates for that are slightly higher.
