ICSI, or intracytoplasmic sperm injection, is often used for severe male factor infertility. That means that men's semen parameters are abnormal. Commonly, it's either used for ejaculated sperm, where men produce small quantities of sperm or spermatozoa, or, alternatively, is used for testicular sperm or epididymal sperm, which is obtained surgically. So, it's either used for men with severe problems in their fertility, either ejaculation sperm or those men who may have surgically derived sperm.
