Transcript
GCSF is a cytokine that normally is present in the body and in many tissues. It basically improves immune tolerance by using T regulatory cells which are the immune tolerant cells. It also damps down or reduces the over-activity of the proinflammatory T cells' cytokines, basically TNF alpha and interferon gamma, and improves basically the tolerance of the body to accommodate the pregnancy. There was a famous randomised control study by my friend and colleague, Fabio Scarpellini from Italy, who treated patients with recurrent miscarriage with GCSF. And he showed a significant improvement in the live birth rate, to reach 80% versus 48%, when he give placebo.
