What is combined immune therapy and how effective is it?

Dr Amin Gorgy explains that combined immune therapy means doing more than one therapy or procedure for the patient to improve the outcome. For instance, adding IVIg to Clexane and aspirin for patients with antiphospholipid syndrome. The outcome of immune therapy will depend on what’s wrong, and the test results.

Combined immune therapy means that we are doing more than one therapy or treatment or procedure for the patient, and that's a proved outcome. It has been shown in studies, if you add IVIg to Clexane and aspirin for patient with antiphospholipid syndrome, the outcome will be better. If you add Humira to IVIg, particularly in patients who have increased TNF alpha, the liability increase from 50 to 75%, but this is all down to what is imbalanced when you do the tests. So if there is more than one problem, we try to tackle it from different angles. So adding combined immune therapy will very much depend on what's wrong and the test results.
