What is an advanced fertility scan?

Dr William Hooexplains that an advancedfertility scanis a more detailed scan designed to look for pathologies that can interfere with pregnancies, including ultrasound assessment.

Transcript
An advanced scan is perhaps a more detailed scan to look for any pathologies which may interfere with pregnancy. I guess any scan done thoroughly is an advanced scan but ultrasound assessment is very operator dependent. So, different people will carry scans with different levels of details. In our unit, we have a very thorough assessment of the uterus which in south may be the store that enlarge for various reasons of different assessment of the uterine cavity looking for pathologies within or even abnormalities of the shape of the womb which some people may be born with. And then we will go on to look at the ovaries, looking at the antral follicle count, and the ovarian volume, and, of course, to match where the woman is in terms of her history and correlate it with the scan because she may be in a part of a cycle. And usually, you will see changes within the lining, changes within the ovaries which should reflect that. So, it's a good point to check. But I think an advanced scan should go beyond just looking at the uterus and the ovaries. We should be looking everything outside as well, looking at the fallopian tubes, and looking at how the ovaries interact with the structures surrounding it like pelvic sidewalls or posterior lateral aspects of the uterus, and also looking at how the bowel interacts with the back because all of these may have an impact on invasive treatment if they decide to go that way.
