What is an adrenal nodule?
Dr Simon Aylwin of London Endocrinology explains the steps for evaluating the adrenal nodule. It is common to start with looking at the CT scan to look at the composition of the adrenal gland.
Transcript
Okay, so you've been found to have an adrenal nodule on a CT scan for some other reason. We're going to do two things. Firstly, we're probably going to want to do a CT scan specifically to look at the composition of the adrenal gland. If the CT scan is done just to screen the abdomen, it will only catch one or two slices from the adrenal and it won't be quite focused enough. That's the first thing. The second thing we'll be doing is looking to see whether there's any adrenal hormones that are present in excess. Because adrenal tumours can make small amounts of adrenal hormones that will have impact on health.
