Transcript
So there are a number of different hormonal causes of high blood pressure. Probably the most important one to look for is a high level of aldosterone. Aldosterone is a hormone that comes from the adrenal glands and it causes salt retention. It's a very important hormone, but in excess, it causes too much salt retention, potassium loss from the body, and high blood pressure. And quite often, individuals with high blood pressure which is difficult to control may well have an abnormality of the adrenal gland producing too much aldosterone. It's quite a difficult condition to diagnose, and it's one where you really need endocrine specialists to look into it.
