What happens during a HyCoSy procedure?
Dr William Hoodetails what happens during aHyCoSy Procedure, including checking for allergies, an internal scan, an insertion of a catheter into the neck of the womb, injection of dye, and capturing this live on the ultrasound.
Transcript
So when you come in for HyCoSy, we would, first of all, check that your last menstrual cycle and make sure that you've been using barrier contraception in that particular month. So that's important. We'll check for allergies in case you had any issues with dye in the past. And then we will start by performing an internal scan. And after which we will insert a very small catheter into the neck of the womb and secure by using a very small balloon, and then we will reinsert the scan probe and inject some dye which is a contrast media which will hopefully flow down the fallopian tubes, and we will capture that or aim to capture that live by using the ultrasound probe. Procedure itself is usually relatively straightforward, very short lived about five minutes, but may be a little bit lengthened if there's any difficulties with introducing the catheter or visualisation of the fallopian tubes, after which you will be prescribed some antibiotics to take just to as a prophylaxis to prevent and reduce the risk of infection potentially.
