When you have celiac disease, you're at higher risk of developing iron deficiency anaemia, and not getting enough calcium in your diet and therefore developing osteoporosis. We also worry about fibre intake. Our key sources of calcium in our diets in the UK are dairy products, and our key sources of iron are animal products, such as red meat and eggs. If you're moving more to a plant based diet, really worth talking to a dietician about how you're going to do that safely if you have celiac disease without developing further deficiencies and further problems. With fibre, of course, lower intakes of fibre occur when people cut out lots of cereal products, which is necessary when you have celiac disease. It's really important to focus on lots of fruits and vegetables in the diet and having plenty of higher fibre gluten-free foods.
