What does next generation IVF involve?
Simon Fishel explains that next generation IVF involves carefully selecting the most viable embryo to result in a live birth.
Transcript
For most of us, next generation IVF involves particularly trying to understand the biggest cause of failure and that's the embryo. What we are doing is to try to look at strategies, technologies, that help us look into the embryo in one form or another that allows us to select the most likely embryo to make a baby. This seems quite strange to most people because they think, Well, an embryo makes a baby, but the reality is 70% of all embryos do not make babies. It's incumbent upon us, in the IVF scenario, to find those that are most likely to make a baby. They may not, because there still may be other factors, the lining of the womb, et cetera, but it's the largest single cause of failure is the embryo. It's the largest single cause of miscarriage is the embryo. For us, mostly, next generation IVF is about selecting the most viable embryo.
