The causes for erectile dysfunction are both physical and psychological. We know that anything that can affect the blood supply into the penis can also affect its ability to get firm. So certainly conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, having a high cholesterol can all affect this blood flow and subsequently your erections. We also know that anything that can affect the nerve supply, that's involved in erections. Whether this be from pelvic surgery or spinal surgery can have an effect and also if the penis itself is unable to store the blood inside for erections, this will also have an impact. There's also a number of medications which may also affect your erections, particularly medications for blood pressure. So if you've recently started on one of these and you've noticed this to be a problem, please consult your GP. We also know that psychology has a big impact on your erectile function and certainly the concern about your performance from previous failures or even worrying about your current situation can all impact further on your erectile dysfunction. However, what we do know, there's a number of ways we can rectify this, whether it be with lifestyle changes, medications, and the additional psychosexual counseling.
