If you were to have an external cardioversion, once the procedure is done and you are back in a normal rhythm, the first thing that happens is you go to the recovery area where you are looked after and monitored quite closely as you recover from the brief anesthetic.
Once you then have recovered, you go on to the regular ward.
At that stage, several hours after the procedure, you will be able to go home.
As part of any procedure, it is routine that you will then be booked in to have a follow-up appointment with your specialist, your cardiologist, a few weeks after the procedure to check in on your heart rhythm at that stage and to decide on a longer-term plan and treatments for you.
