What arrhythmias occur with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM)?
Heart rhythm disturbances can occur in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Dr Ravi Assomull explains why atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia and discusses the less common but more serious ventricular arrhythmias associated with increased risk.

The commonest arrhythmia associated with HCM is atrial fibrillation. As well as atrial fibrillation, in a small group of patients, we can get more sinister arrhythmias such as ventricular tachycardia that increases the risk of sudden death.
