What are varicose veins?

What are varicose veins? In this video, Mr. Ahmed Shalan explains how damaged vein valves cause enlarged, twisted veins and outlines modern minimally invasive treatment options.

Transcript
If you have enlarged, twisted veins in your leg, these are varicose veins. A normal vein should carry the blood from the leg towards the heart. To the veins to do so, they need to have valves within these veins. Veins with damaged valves end up being enlarged and causing varicose veins. It's a pretty common condition. About 30% of the population will have a degree of varicose veins at some point of their life. But we're lucky to have very good, successful minimal invasive techniques to treat varicose veins with very good outcomes.
