Most adults who develop celiac disease will start off with diarrhoea and have gastrointestinal disturbances. That might be the first thing that indicates that they might be having a problem. Unfortunately, that's not everybody. And lots of people who have celiac disease will go undiagnosed for a long period of time. Other people might get diagnosed because they have an incidental finding of anaemia on a blood test for something else. And that's how they end up getting a diagnosis of celiac disease. Again, most people will have gastrointestinal disturbances, get tested, and find out that way. But again, a lot of people do suffer without us finding out they've got it for a long time.
