What are the surgical treatment options for short or tight frenulums?
Dr Suks Minhas, of London Andrology, says a tight or short frenulem can be surgical treated with a frenuloplasty with a 70% success rate but eligibility for a frenuloplasty depends on the nature of the scarring around the penis.
Transcript
Frenulum breve is a short frenulum or a tight frenulum, and often frenuloplasty can be used in these patients. In order to do a frenuloplasty, the frenulum has to be really scarred. And what often happens in patients is they often feel pain and discomfort during erection or intercourse. A frenuloplasty involves making an incision transversely or along on the opposite side to the frenulum, about 90 degrees, and then sew it up vertically, which elongates the frenulum. Patients have to be aware that in about 70% of the patients that are well chosen, it does work, but in about 30%, you sometimes need to do a full circumcision. Clearly, a frenuloplasty won't work if you got a phimosis or scarring all the way around on the penis.
