What are the risks or complications of varicose vein treatment?
Varicose vein treatment is generally safe. In this video, Mr. Ahmed Shalan explains possible side effects, rare complications and how careful screening reduces risk.
Transcript
Varicose vein intervention is very safe.
Risk of complication is very small.
Side effects can happen such as bruising, tiredness, swelling of the leg.
That can clear itself within three days to a week maximum.
The most serious complication is deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.
And that's why in the pre-consultation questionnaire, there are specific questions to identify patients who have high risk to develop that.
And for that, we follow the protocol of anticoagulation to reduce the risk for these patients to develop any of that.
