What are hydroceles?
Dr Suks Minhas, a Consultant Urologist and Andrologist at London Andrology, says hydroceles are the build up of fluid between the 2 linings of the testicules. All men have some fluid between the linings but in abnormal states there is a large amount of fluid which can cause discomfort and pain which requires corrective surgery.

So, hydrocele is a fluid around the testicle, which commonly occur between the two linings of the testicle. One is, sort of, called a tunica albuginea. The other one is the tunica vaginalis. And the fluid accumulates between the two. All men will have some fluid there, but generally speaking, fluid tends to accumulate and become large so it's noticeable and can cause discomfort in the testicle. Sometimes, it's associated with cancers or infections but, invariably, there's no cause found, and it can reach considerable size, such that surgery is necessary.
