Is kidney cancer hereditary?

Mr Walter Cazzaniga explains whether kidney cancer is hereditary and why some people may have a higher lifetime risk. He discusses family history, first-degree relatives and genetic testing, and in this video offers practical insight into assessing risk for patients and their families.

Transcript
Kidney cancer is not hereditary, but some patients might be at a higher risk of developing kidney cancer in their lifetime. This is specifically true if they have a family member that was diagnosed and treated for kidney cancer in the past, especially if it's a first degree family member. At The Royal Marsden Private Care, we normally offer genetic testing to this kind of patient in order to define their risk also for their family in the future.
