How is hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) treated?
Obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HOCM) can sometimes require specialised treatment. Dr Ravi Assomull discusses the role of medications such as beta blockers and explains when procedures such as septal myectomy or alcohol septal ablation may be considered.
Transcript
Whilst most cases of obstructive HCM can be managed by medications, including established medications such as beta blockers, a small proportion of people with obstructive HCM will require operations, one called a myectomy, or a percutaneous procedure called an alcohol septal ovulation.
