How is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) treated?
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is generally managed rather than cured. Dr Ravi Assomull explains how treatment focuses on relieving symptoms and assessing the risk of sudden cardiac death, sometimes requiring the implantation of a defibrillator device (ICD).

HCM isn't treated as such, it's a condition that's managed. And typically we do this by providing treatments for any symptoms you may have and also to ensure that you are not at risk of sudden death. And if you are, we implant a device called an ICD which can detect and shock any potentially dangerous heart rhythms.
