How is an abnormal uterine shape treated?
Dr Nitish Narvekar lists some of the ways thatabnormal uterine shapecan be treated, including with hysteroscopic surgery beforeIVF(or after unsuccessful IVF).
Transcript
The main treatment of abnormal uterine shape, especially septums, uterine septums is to treat them hysteroscopically. This involves passing a small telescope through the cervix examining the inside of the uterus, confirming that it's an abnormal shape like a septum and then cutting the septum with scissors and with electrocautery. And the surgery has to be precise and therefore, it is important to determine the depth of the septum beforehand and to agree with the patient how deep we are going to cut. We also sometimes do a scan during the procedure to know exactly how deep we're cutting. And very rarely, we have to do electroscopy which is telescope through the belly button to have a look at the uterus from outside to make sure we're not cutting too deep.
