How does PGT work?
Andrew Thomson explains that Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) works by stimulating your ovaries and creating embryos in the lab. On Day 5, they undergo genetic testing and affected embryos are removed.
Transcript
With PGT, what we do is we stimulate your ovaries to produce lots of follicles. You have a short surgery to have those follicles aspirated and those are passed into the lab. We locate the eggs and fertilise them in the lab. We take them through to a day 5 developmental stage and remove a few of those cells using a laser. And those are sent to a genetics testing laboratory and they basically check all the chromosomes for a specific genetic disease. And then we can put back chromosomally or unaffected embryos.
