How does intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) work as a treatment for recurrent miscarriages?
Dr Amin Gorgy explains that IVIg improves the live birth rate for recurrent miscarriages by reducing the activity of the NK cells and the pro-inflammatory T-cells. This improves the immune tolerance for the body to tolerate the baby, of which half is foreign to the woman’s body.

IVIG improves the outcome, the live birth rate basically, and recurrent miscarriages. First of all, it reduces the activity of the NK cells. Second, it reduces that activity of pro-inflammatory T-cells. Basically using the production of defensive cytokines that might upset the environment in the uterus. It improves the activity of what we call T regulatory cells, which are immune tolerant cells. So basically improves the immune tolerance for the body to tolerate the baby, which half foreign. It reduces the pro inflammatory activity of the compliment. So, it works in different aspects, different mechanisms basically to calm down the overactive immune system to accommodate the pregnancy.
