Transcript
CBT for chronic pain is, again, when a person has chronic pain, it can affect all areas of their life. So, not only the way that they think, but also the way that they live their life, and the way that they have to change how they live their life due to the pain. So, it works on activities. It uses all the traditional techniques that we use in CBT. So, working on thoughts and feelings, and behaviours, but it introduces methods that also works within the person's pain level. So, for example, we might help a person who's suffering with chronic pain and depression to increase some activity, but we'll do that by pacing. So, we don't want to overload a person so that they then experience more pain, but activity would help to improve a person's mood. So, we'll help a person learn how to pace the activity so they get moderate activity with limited rest.
