How do varicose veins develop into leg ulcers?

Untreated varicose veins can damage skin over time. In this video, Mr. Ahmed Shalan explains how pressure and swelling may lead to skin breakdown and ulcer formation.

Transcript
A varicose vein causes pressure on the skin in the leg. The varicose vein does not hold the blood in the correct direction towards the heart, which leads to swelling of the leg and causing a lot of pressure against the skin. With the time, the skin gets damaged and the dark skin develops around the leg area. If that problem did not get addressed, the skin then breaks into an ulcer, which becomes very difficult to heal because the cause is still there.
