How do people choose a treatment for addiction?

Elena Touroni, a private psychologist based in Chelsea, London, explains how CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is the preferred treatment for addiction.

Transcript
Treatment of choice for addiction tends to be motivational interviewing and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. We first have to work with the client's motivation for change and to establish where they are in terms of the cycle of change. Are they pre-contemplative? Are they at a point where they're ready to take action? So we have to do some commitment work to begin with, and then usually, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy will be the main therapeutic approach that we will use for the treatment of addiction.
