How can I talk to my partner who has erectile dysfunction?

Felix Economakis explains that it is important to remember that your partner’s performance anxiety and erectile dysfunction is not about you, and you shouldn’t feel offended. Speak to them, and normalise the problem.

How do I talk to my partner about erectile dysfunction? Well, the first thing to realise is that this is not about you. What happens to you is not actually about you. It's far more likely, in my experience, to hear the person who has erectile problems giving themselves performance anxiety. And if anything, they're too eager to impress you. They're worried about, oh, will I get hard in the first place? What if I don't because I really want to impress them? Or what if I cum too early or something like that? So this is really all about them and worrying about impressing you rather than something to do with your desirability or level of attraction. And how do you bring it up and talk about it with your partner? Well, the most important thing is just normalise it, that's low-key, use neutral language. You know, I feel in this way rather than you are doing this. So keep it very low-key. And be pragmatic, focus on solutions. Like, you know what? I love you, you love me. There's a little glitch in the way, a little misunderstanding. Why don't we just just talk to someone, resolve it in one or two sessions and then we're back on track? And we can avoid a lot of trouble down the line that way. So solution-focused and pragmatic is the way to think about it.
