Can people with dark skin get skin cancer?
Transcript
Essentially anybody with skin can get a skin cancer and whilst patients with darker skin colour have an increased amount of melanin in their skin and this can be somewhat protective, it does not eradicate risk.
The difficulty with skin cancer in darker skinned patients is that they often appear in unusual locations, so the bottoms of the feet, the hands, around the nails, so they're often diagnosed later.
But essentially the same rule applies to everyone.
If you notice something changing, you should get it checked.
The key is something that you haven't noticed before or a change in your skin, this is something that you should get checked out.
