Are headaches during pregnancy normal?

Dr Manjit Matharu, a Consultant Neurologist at Queen Square, says usually women who suffer episodic headaches will experience an increase in the frequency of headaches during the first trimester but this will improve significantly during the latter 2 trimesters.

Transcript
A significant proportion of women will report that they get headaches in pregnancy. The usual kind of story is that a person has had episodic migraines already before, and during pregnancy there is an increase in the frequency of the headaches. That increase in the main occurs in the first trimester of pregnancy. In the second and third trimester of pregnancy, the vast majority of women say that the headaches improved significantly. So there's a good likelihood that there's going to be a worsening in the first trimester, but a significant improvement in the second and third trimester in the majority of women.
